What is real Multi-Touch?

polytouch will be presented on various trade fairs in 2011, where you can explore the intuitive operation of polytouch live. Shortly our Partners will be equipped with demo units as well.

polytouch can be expanded easily. The so-called extension modules are attached to the sides of polytouch and blend harmoniously into the design. If you are planning special project-specific hardware enhancements, our hardware partners can implement various components very quickly.

polytouch is available as 22" and 32" (80cm) all-in-one system. Basically polytouch is convertible: as standalone system, wall mounted or built-in. Depending on the project, the devices can be customized. Please contact us.

polytouch is an open system so you can create applications by yourself. When running Windows 7 polytouch needs no additional driver installation and is recognized as an input device. Professional applications are available through our partner network. Our software partners have many years experience in the design of interactive presentations or video.

Software Partners:
Develop touch-based multimedia applications for polytouch like interactive product presentations, videos, 3D animations, interfaces to ERP and CRM applications etc.

Hardware Partners:
Develop extension modules, for example RFID-readers, cameras or scanner modules for projects. We have also partners who can integrate polytouch into your shop or showroom.

Resellers:
Sell polytouch to private and commercial customers. They offer additional services such as installation, field service and project management.

polytouch uses projective-capacitive technology for touch detection.
In this method, two sensor layers with conductive strips are used. The isolated strips serve as transmitting and receiving units. If a finger is placed at the intersection of two strips the exact position can be determined by a charge surplus.

The projective capacitive technology differs in some aspects from optical methods for touch detection:

1. Ultra low latency (Video)
   In optical methods, a signal is recorded with (infrared) cameras and must be processed afterwards. The capacitive technology processes signals faster and provides lag-free operation.
   
   
2. Daylight independence
   Infrared-based systems are sensitive to light, optical filters may reduce the problems, yet the use in very bright environments or outdoors is not recommended. Capacitive systems are completely insensitive to daylight.
   
   
3. Superior image quality
   Optical touch methods, based on back projection (eg, Microsoft Surface) produce, a dull image due to technological reasons. The projective capacitive method does not affect the image quality of the underlying display.
   
   
4. Frameless design with no image shift
   Since capacitive touch screens can be placed in minimal distance to the display, there is no offset between the image information and the touch point. Furthermore frameless designs are possible, because no sensors are attached to the edge of the display.

Projected Capacitive Technology

Due to the technpology used, true multi-touch allows the detection of more than two points of contact simultaneously. This enables multiple users to operate simultaneously and independently.
